The essential tasks of a professional hunter include the silvicultural land use of the hunting grounds devolved from its hunting beneficial executant (gamekeeping, guiding of guests, fulfilment of shootings, establishment of facilities on the hunting grounds, feeding of wild animals etc). Furthermore, he is responsible for not only the protection and the preservation of a biodiverse and healthy, free-living wildlife but also for the fostering and safeguarding of its necessities of life whilst ensuring a adequate landscape and rural culture. Additionally, he needs to adhere to the aims of environment protection, nature protection, wildlife protection and species protection and grounds maintenance as well as implementing the entirety of hunting and hunting customs.
According to the regulations of the Lower Austrian Jagdgesetz 1974, it is necessary to appoint at least one professional hunter for every hunting ground that reaches above 3.000 hectares.
